Day eighteen- taking flight

Today I went all out of my comfort zone and started my new project. I decided to get going with Instagram, where the magazine is still in a phase of experimenting and trying out. The perfect ground for me to implement new ideas!

To figure out what to change I asked some students and used my knowledge from the Instagram workshop to come up with new ideas. One of the problems is that A: students don't know we exist on IG and B: students don't feel included in the process.

My concept is to do a weekly post about people I meet at the different locations of the Hogeschool Rotterdam. Every individual has a story to tell. I am not focusing on people with special talents, multicultural background, disabilities etc. I want to talk to the average students, who, as a matter of fact also have interesting stories. (at least I hope so)

I am hoping to give students a feeling of being heard and seen as well as included in the process of making Profielen. The plan is to interview one random individual per week and create a portrait or an illustration about this person or their story.

It was quite an adventure for me to leave my drawing table and step outside into the real world to talk to people I've never met.

The first person I interviewed was a guy who was waiting for a friend at the cafeteria and had some time to chat with me. He was very exited about being interviewed, and immediately agreed to be my guinea pig for my project.

I used the rest of the day to sketch out an illustration, which I will turn into an GIF animation for IG. I also made different backgrounds for IG quotes.
