How is the internship so far?
The first two weeks I was mainly getting used to everything and figuring out what was expected of me. As a student I found it challenging to get used to an eight hour workday. After getting into the workflow I was enjoying myself a lot.
What do I have to do?
Every monday we start with a meeting, where we discuss the deeds of the week. In average I am working on one illustration a day. Mostly I get to work with articles. I start by reading the article, to get an idea what it is about. Then I continue by sketching out my idea and showing it to the writer or the other illustrator. Then we discuss if it communicates and what to change. Then I work it out to a finished illustration which will then be posted to the website or used for the magazine.
Sometimes I am also working on illustrations for general use. The magazine has some topics which are addressed more often. I am making illustrations for those, to be used in the future. For these I have some more time, and can also create gifs or try other things which take some more time. The first three weeks I was working on a series of numbers next to it, which was very free and playful.
After getting used to everything I was able to work more efficiently and to finish illustrations faster. To challenge myself I am now starting a new project next to the daily illustrations.
Today we had a workshop with an Instagram expert. She explained to the team how Instagram and Facebook algorithms work, and how we can make use of those. We talked about ways to increase our visibility online, and how we can reach our target group (students) better.
